Our Story: Every Dish Tells One
Before Sage & Spice was a restaurant, it was a kitchen table.
Some of our best memories aren't from the dinner table. They're from standing in the kitchen itself, watching a mother or grandmother stir a pot for hours, adding a pinch of this, tasting, adjusting, never once looking at a recipe card. She'd hand you a spoon to taste before it was ready, just to see your face when the flavor hit. That's the moment we've spent years trying to recreate for other people.
When we moved to the Pacific Northwest years ago and went looking for that feeling in a restaurant. We rarely found it. What we found instead were steam trays and laminated menus, the same curry tasting the same in every city, food made to move fast instead of made to be remembered. We missed home. We missed our mothers' kitchens. So instead of settling for less, we decided to build it ourselves.
Sage & Spice opened in North Bend as our way of bringing that kitchen table back to life, one long simmer at a time. We source the way our families shopped, standing over vegetables at the market, picking each one by hand. Fresh over frozen, real over convenient, even when it takes longer and costs more. Because that difference is the whole point, and it's the difference our families would have noticed first.
But we're not only cooking from memory. We're raised between two cultures, and our kitchen carries both. That's where the Dosa Wrap came from, a childhood favorite reimagined and rolled up new. It's where Indo-Chinese and Indo-Italian plates come from, where a stuffed naan shows up that nobody expected, where a cocktail gets built with the same care as a curry. We're not choosing between where we came from and where we live now. We're cooking both, on the same plate, and hoping you taste a little of your own memories in it too.
Somewhere along the way, our guests started feeling like family. Regulars who know our kitchen staff by name. Kids who grew up eating here and now bring their own friends. A grandmother who once told us our curries and chutneys tasted like her mother's, then came back the next week with her whole family in tow. That's the reaction we hope for every time a plate leaves the kitchen.
Every dish here carries a little bit of that kitchen table. That's not a tagline to us, it's the truth: every dish tells a story.
